Meeting the legend

I finally got to meet Michael Schumacher at the F1 races at Sepang. its really a dream come true. Schuemacher had retired for over 3 years (since then I stopped watching F1). and now he's making a come back!!! how often does that happen???  It's probably was the highlight of my year. Not just for the fact that he's the worlds greatest F1 racer, but  because I watched this guys every race as a teen for over seven years. Sundays chilling with my dad watching f1 on TV was a real treat. At 1st cheering for Beneton and then Ferrari. So you might guess its something like you've been reading superman comics all your childhood and finally getting to meet him.

I headed to the track early before my friends. they just wanted to see the races. There was a long queue already. while waiting in the queue I made some friends. boy these guys know more about F1 than me lol. Even the girls. While this was my 1st real F1 race, this was their 6th. WOW!!

The atmosphere at the races is really electric. the roar of the engines really gives you goosebumps. and people from all over the world are actually following where ever the races are going. there were people from aussie, japan, brazil, france, philippines, just about every country. it was 90% internationals and 10% locals.

After taking Schumie's autograph, i shook his hand and wished him good luck. Not only only did I get his autograph, also got his team mate Nico Rosberg's too. added to that I also got autographs of Kamui Kobayashi and  Pedro de la Rosa  from Bmw sauber, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari from red bull team and Vitantonio Luzzi and Adrian Sutil from force india. These guys are new to F1 so the organizers put them at the autograph session too before schumie.

Before the races were an airshow by the malaysian airforce. it was really something, with the migs flying really close.

The races were great but schumies car broke down after 10 laps. what a bummer for the begining of the season. now the critics are screaming.that he hasn't got it in him anymore. wait and see there's plenty of racing left for the season. he'll take the championship.

Michael Schumacher making a comeback to F1

only today i got to know that Michael Schumacher is making a comeback to F1 this year. thats pretty much the best thing that could happen in the racing world.

Schumacher is a F1 legend, seven time world F1 championship winner. i used to watch every race this guy raced. it was more fun than watching cricket (if you know sri lankans you'd know then its a REALLY big deal). i remember the days dad and me glued to the tv. doing nothing except watch f1 all sunday (one race is like 60 laps). i pretty much grew up watching this guy race

he started racing f1 with team benetton and then to ferrari. he'll be driving with the mercedes gp petronas team starting this year. if you're a malaysian then thats kinda great news too lol

Chasing the past

lee kuan yew was inspired by around 40 years ago when he visited sri lanka, just when singapore had been founded. after his visit to colombo he said he will bring singapore to this level. this was way before the ethnic conflicts emerged in sri lanka. now things are the other way around, Singapore is one of most finest, safest, advanced, just countries in the world and its us who have alot to catch up on.

its sad to see what war can do to a country to hog its development. finally the war is over. but now is a growing power struggle who will take the regins and lead sri lanka into the future.

New Crib

Moved into the new apartment yesterday. despite the slight flu, my housemate and I managed to move most of our stuff. The only major thing that's left is our internet connection. but for that to transfer will take a week. we rented out a car for the move. took about 6 rounds

this is my new bed, bigger and more comfy  :D

this is the view from my balcony. lovely eh. :)

This place feels very fresh and airly compared to the previous place. it's bigger and newer too. great to have sunlight and the sound of birds wake me up in the mornings.

Introducing the IPAD

So all this hype last week when steve jobs announced the IPAD. (hint, you can find out this stuff long before public knows if you keep an eye on the patent office site)

The tablet isn't something new. Around 5 years ago ago Microsoft tried to push the tablet PC into the market with bill gates visioning a tablet PC for every student in school. The problem was it was way too heavy, bulky and pricey. it didnt catch up. compared to laptops only a very few tablets are sold. still tablet PCs are in production getting more lighter and cheaper but still not catching up.

Then there is WACOM. they produce graphics tablets with their most famous is the graphire and the bamboo series lately. however their market is a very niche market. famous amoung designers and the advertising industry. wacom is very successful. brand wise, if you're a designer. a wacom IS the tool to have.

The new ipad is very sleek. much better than bill gates version. however. I personally see this isnt going to catch the market. somehow i feel this early release is a way of trying to put the ipad on the iphone hype before it dies down. before the iphone was released, Steve Balmer bitched alot about how the iphone was going to be a flop. but it wasnt a flop. it was in a way, it can't compete with the business level smart phones. rather it ended up being used my middle level employees for entertainment.

in one way Ipad would be a direct competitor for the netbook and low end laptops. it's around the same price, same specs and its APPLE. just it doesn't have a keyboard. soon enough apple will introduce a keyboard for this (or make the ipad keyboard compatible) is they haven't already

In a nutshell the ipad isnt going to be something you will see people use when they're on the move. not in the train, or while walking around the city. its too ....big. rather will see ppl use it at places like starbucks as laptops. why??? because ideally people dont want to share content that is personal to them. iphones are good for this coz the screen is small enough to watch by yourself in public without someone peeping over.

books have been around way too long to be replaced the way steve jobs prophecizes.  they watch very personalized content over the internet. so they'll want to see it with with some level of privacy, which the iphone is better at
